What is an MP3 Player?
MP3 Players are very popular these days and most people know what an MP3 Player is. However, in case you don't know or are unsure an MP3 Player is simply an electronic device to play digital audio files in a format called MP3. Previous formats include 8 track and cassette tapes, CDs and even DVDs. MP3 provides a convenience the others don't have. Such conveniences include.
The ability to create a personalized list of music.
The convenience of having your music in a easy portable form you can hold in your hand or pocket.
the music files are compressed in a MP3 format that makes it easy to have larger quantities of music than would be available on cassette tapes, CDs or even DVDs.
There are three main types of MP3 Players.
The lightest and smallest is the Flash (embedded) Memory Players. These are all solid state and contain no moving parts to breakdown. Their size can range from the size of a thumb up to a packet of playing cards. Most weight around 1 or 2 ounces and can hold up to 1 GB of music. This translates into around 2000 standard songs. More than most people would need.
Being so small and with no moving parts makes then very durable and economical to run, being very energy efficient.
Bigger MP3 Players include Hard Drive and Mini-Hard Drive Players. They can weigh in at up to 6 ounces and are a bit more bulky to tote around. These MP3 Players have moving parts and so can suffer from being jolted around. However you can buy Players that have anti-shock buffers or anti-skip protection. Although these will cost a bit more.
These can hold anywhere from 8 GB to 80GB, equivelent to around 80 thousands songs and photographs, data and even video, so are a lot more versatile than a Flash.
Of course they consume more energy and so battery life is going to be shorter depending on the model, how it is used. Obviously if you use a lot of video then the battery usage is going to be more than just playing a few songs.
MP3 CD Players are next in the ladder. These are basically CD players that also play the MP3 Format. Often found in cars or in the newer modern CD Players. To use these the MP3 Player files would need to be burnt onto a CD. Something that most burners can do these days. But these players are generally not as portable (except those in cars of course).
So when you buy a MP3 Player you would look firstly at the reason you are buying it and what sort of use you will use it for. That will tell you the type of MP3 Player you should get.
There is a very diverse range of players on the market and it is likely that these will become more versatile, with bigger memories and more conveniences added. Checking such things when you look at which Player to get is important. What is the battery life? What sort of display are you comfortable with? How easy is it to use the controls. Check lots of players and find one that YOU feel comfortable with and which fits your purposes. Then you will have the MP3 Player that suits you best.
Amazon are probably one of the most well known online stores today. Amazon have 42 different product categories so there is a great diversity of products available from Amazon. This includes MP3 players of course.
