Apple iPod Classic Review

Product Introduction
The sleek polished stainless steel body of the Apple iPod Classic is unique and eye-catching. It is available in two colors namely black and silver. The extra smooth silver body, unlike the normal plastic body of the other iPods makes the iPod Classic extremely stylish.

Design and Features
Apple iPod Classic has a 2.5 inch display screen with 50mm width and 37mm height. The video display has a very rich graphical user interface (GUI) with 320x240 screen resolution. The iPod has video support, music playback, podcast support and video games.

The overall design is very much similar to other iPods with the four control keys and a central touch pad. It has the menu button on top, play/pause button at the bottom, control keys on either side of touchpad. The ON/OFF button and Headphone jack is at the top.

Audio file formats like AAC (16kb/s-320kb/s), Protected AAC, MP3 (16kb/s-320kb/s), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 & 4), Apple Lossless, WAV and AIFF are all supported and video file formats like BMP, GIF, JPEG, PSD (Mac only), PNG and TIFF are also supported. MPEG - 4 video is supported in file formatssuch as MOV, MP4 and M4V.

Main features of the iPod Classic
The Genius feature in iPod Classic allows user to find out similar song tracks from the library, creates a separate playlist for the same, as well as save and update it whenever new songs are added to the library.

Sorting throughthe playlist, genre and album is now made easier than ever. Through the Click Wheel facility browsing is made a lovable task. Shuffle songs feature makes mixing different songs and tracks easier.

Advanced video technology makes watching movies in this iPod possible. iTunes store has numerous movies and TV shows and video podcast collection which could be easily synchronized with the iPod and viewed everywhere. Of course the screen is ratyher small for this but it can certainly while away some hourse if waiting for something else for example.

Up to a massive 40,000 songs, 200 hours of videos and 25000 photos could be stored as the storage capacity is 160GB.

Vortex, iQuiz and Klondike are three amazing games available in the iPod. As well as these other selective games can be purchased from iTunes store. in addition the photos and slideshows with audio can be easily shared on a Mac and viewed on TV using suitable components.

Performance
Music can be heard anywhere and everywhere. The audio quality is one of the best features of the iPod. The music really clear without any noise or distortion. According to one expert user's assessment and extensive testing, the sound quality is considered to be 82% perfect.

The tunes and tracks purchased from iTunes can be sorted, browsed through and shuffled to mix and match according to the user's choice. The preset EQ is a favorite for a lot of people but unfortunately cannot be customized as to individual preferences.

The video quality is good and photos can be easily shared using a Mac. We could easily enable and disable the shuffle button. File formats such as MP3, AIFF, WAV, AAC, files purchased through iTunes and Apple lossless are supported. We could add and delete music manually as well.

Video quality is quite impressive and the battery life is 30 hours audio and 5 hours video for 80 GB iPod and 40 hours audio and 7 hours video for 160 GB set. The video quality is considered to be 73% perfect. The overall performance of the iPod could be rated at 78% therefore.

The Good
The highlight of Apple iPod Classic is its impressive storage capacity. The iPod has 160 GB system storage, one of the largest available in market with HDD storage type. Another best known feature is its enhanced audio technology providing crystal clear sound. The video quality is also chiseled to deliver utmost clarity with 320x240 screen resolution.

The Bad
There are a lot of disadvantages in Apple iPod Classic. The major drawback is that music could be inserted into the iPod only through iTunes. There isn't any other way to transfer data into the iPod. There is no FM radio or SD card slot or support for WMA.

Areas that can be improved
Additional features in iPod like FM radio and line input recoding is usually expected and we think should have been included. Wi-Fi features and WMA support are expected by most of the users these days.

Certain features like Photo sharing could be used only with a MAC and this should really be available with other operating systems, such as windows also.

Verdict
Apple iPod Classic is an excellent iPod and is very easy to use. It has scored 73 percent in ease of usage. The controls are very simple and easy to use and the quality of audio and video is well worth the cost.
