Product review
The brand new Creative Zen X-Fi comes with built-in Wi-Fi technology. It is black in the front with comfortable buttons to operate and chrome colour in the back. The Creative Zen X-Fi has an audio playback of 36 hours and 5 hours of video playback.
It comes with 2.5 inch colour display. The screen resolution is 320 X 240 pixels. Creative Zen X-Fi is portable and includes a compact multimedia machine. Creative's Zen MP3 players are probably one of the most widely used devices in Asia. This product includes lots of features with great sound quality making it the one of the best audio players. The supported audio formats include AAC non-protected, Audible 4, MP3, WAV, and WMA. The supported video formats include DivX 4/5, M-JPEG, MPEG4-SP, WMV, and XviD.
Style and design
The Creative Zen X-Fi is an amusing player that has an attractive pattern. The glossy Creative Zen player is chrome-coloured which has brushed silver looks on the rear side. The problem with the player is that, it is encased in plastic body and gives an unfinished feel. The function buttons include menu, shortcut button, play/pause button. These buttons have a sharp edge which is very helpful for navigation even without looking at the player. The player is not backlit.
Between the function buttons the player has nine-digit keypad. The player is designed in such a way that one can have access to the centre select button. The edges of the player include a speaker on bottom with a standard mini USB port. The 3.5mm headphone jack is placed on the right and pinhole microphone with the SD card slot is placed on the top. The power button/hold switch is positioned on the flipside of the player.
Interface
The new Zen X-Fi is very handy when it comes to transfer of audio from computer to the player. This can be further made easy with Windows Media Player while running on a Windows OS. It means that it is not necessary to install any software to sync the content with the player.
The drag and drop feature provides ease of access. Yet the Creative Centrale software is included with the player. This software is useful when lot of videos are dumped onto the player.
With this software, one need not worry about the format and the frame rate. The ZenCast is a program which offers the one-stop spot for subscribing and organizing podcasts. Creative zen X-Fi player one will sync with machines running in Windows XP or Vista.
The Good
The new Creative Zen X-Fi is an unbelievable gadget with low price and holding lots of features. The player includes photo viewer, video where you can subscribe for support. It also has FM radio and a recorder to make your own recordings. The SD card at the top is a new addition. It has Wi-Fi capability that enables easy data transfer. The EP-830 earphone provides crystal clear audio quality. With multiple EQ settings, the brand new amusing Creative Zen X-Fi offers enhanced sound technology. With the battery support for 36 hours of audio playback, one can enjoy music on the go.
The bad
The plastic body drops this player when it comes to quality. The original design of the button on the player puzzles when used for the first time. Creative Zen X-Fi is not compatible with all video formats. Life of battery for audio playback is somewhat gloomy.
Areas that can be improved
The menu settings could be simplified. More video file formats should be supported, The iPod supports only Windows operating system and the Macintosh OS support could help a lot with that.
Verdict
The Creative Zen X-Fi is a superbly designed iPod that's easy to use and packed with pretty much every feature in the book. The iPod has a unique, intuitive interface and comes with extras such as an FM radio, voice recorder, Wi-Fi and subscription content. The iPod has good battery life and is priced competitively.
