Sony Walkman NWZ-B143F Description and Features
The Sony walkman NWZ-B143F is a compact MP3 player the size of an average index finger. It comes with a built in USB jack. It provides excellent quality audio, has a good FM radio and battery life. It is very affordable to buy.

There is a small 2 cm LCD display in the front. It shows three rows of text containing the basic information about the music played. The display is quite clear with white text on black background.

On the right side of this display screen we have a special button for Zappin feature and the Back key. If the back key is pressed for a long time it takes us to the home screen. Adjacent to this we have the control pad with select/play/pause button at the center. Surrounding this we have the navigation and playback keys. Using them we can go through the menu and browse through various music tracks.

If Bass mode is activated in the player there will be an orange light glowing around the center button blinking to the beat of the music played. At the top we have a button for recording facility, volume control keys and the bass key.

We have a hold key at the bottom and a head phone jack at one side. We have the USB jack with cap on the other side. A reset hole and holes to attach a lanyard loop are present at the back.

The audio quality of the MP3 player is very good. Music seems to be even richer when the player is setup in Bass mode. It supports all the basic file formats. It does not support AAC audio format. Music could be transferred easily by plugging in the USB part directly to the computer. The transfer rate of both data and music is considerably slow.

Windows explorer or windows media player 11 could be used to transfer data easily. There is no MAC OS support. Whenever a song is played all the details of the song are displayed in the small LCD screen. So there is no need to actually use the Zappin feature. This feature usually shows a short clip giving information about the currently playing music track.

The Sony Walkman NWZ-B143F MP3 player has a built-in FM radio and voice recorder. Their performance is quite good and the battery life of this MP3 player is great. It has 20 hours of standby time with music playing continuously. When the player is kept in Bass mode for better sound quality battery lasts for 11 hours.

The Good
The Sony Walkman NWZ-B143F has numerous good features like excellent audio quality and impressive battery life. Since the player has an inbuilt USB connector it can be plugged in directly to the system without any cables.

This enables easy data transmission. The player has preset equalizer settings as well as easily customizable EQ settings. There is a built in FM radio and a voice recorder with built in microphone. The user interface is very easy to use.

The Bad
The overall speed of the device is very slow. Data transferring takes ages. The screen is too small to view all the information about the song. Hence some features like Zappin could not be utilized properly.

FM tuning and reception also is quite average. Instead of holes for lanyard loops a small clip could have been more useful and would help the user to plug the device into the shirt or belt.

Areas that could be Improved
An increase in display screen size will be a good improvement. The MP3 player should be able to support other standard operating systems such as the MAC. An overall speed of the MP3 player would be nice.

The Verdict
The Sony Walkman NWZ-B143F MP3 player is definitely one of the most slender devices in the market. The value of the MP3 player is increased since it comes with an inbuilt USB connector. The MP3 players affordable cost is another attractive feature. The sound quality is also excellent. The overall score for the device is 75 percent.
